Sample estate inventory report
A fictitious French estate inventory report, as Marto exports it, annotated field by field: each entry that an article names carries its reference.
Version 1, 30 October 2026. The report is in French, like the act it reproduces: each label below is quoted as printed, followed by its translation.
What this sample shows
The firm, the deceased, the requesting heir and the lots are invented, and the report's title says so: « MODÈLE FICTIF » (fictitious sample). The identifiers are made of zeros, and the postal code 00000 does not exist. The PDF is the one Marto's export button downloads, untouched. It was exported by a member of the firm who is not an authorised signatory, so it carries no seal, no paraph and no signature.
The references below cite the French texts in force on 28 October 2026. They do not interpret them.
Field by field
Header and identity column
On page 1, outside the frame: « RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE » (French Republic), then the firm's name, profession, address, and legal form with its SIRET number.
For the inventory that accompanies an acceptance up to the net assets, the Civil Code provides: « L'inventaire est établi par un commissaire-priseur judiciaire, un huissier ou un notaire […] » (the inventory is drawn up by a judicial auctioneer, a bailiff or a notary) (Code civil, art. 789).
Title, type of operation and status
The centred title names the act, « INVENTAIRE SUCCESSORAL » (estate inventory), and the subtitle repeats the file's title. The « TYPE D'OPÉRATION » (type of operation) and « STATUT » (status) entries, further down, repeat what the firm entered.
Date, requesting party and place
- The date of the operation, in words, and its time.
- « A LA REQUÊTE DE » (at the request of): the requesting heir, her capacity, then « dont l'état civil sera communiqué en tant que de besoin » (whose civil status will be provided as needed). The Code of Civil Procedure lists among the inventory's entries « Les nom, prénoms, profession et domicile du ou des requérants » (the names, first names, occupation and address of the requesting parties) (art. 1330, 1°).
- « DÉFÉRANT À CETTE RÉQUISITION » (acting on this request): the firm drawing up the act, in the first person.
- « JE ME SUIS RENDU CE JOUR » (I went this day to): the address where the inventory is drawn up, which answers « L'indication des lieux où l'inventaire est fait » (the places where the inventory is made) (art. 1330, 2°).
Menu
The number of sections and lots, the total estimate, then a table giving each room's number of lots and estimate.
Détails: the lots, room by room
Each room starts a page. The lots are numbered continuously from one room to the next. Each row carries the number, the designation, its description and the value, here as a range: a low and a high estimate.
- The Code of Civil Procedure lists among the inventory's entries « La description et l'estimation des biens » (the description and valuation of the property) (art. 1330, 3°).
- The Civil Code provides, for the inventory that accompanies an acceptance up to the net assets, « une estimation, article par article, des éléments de l'actif et du passif » (a valuation, article by article, of the assets and liabilities) (art. 789).
- The Code of Civil Procedure states that this inventory « contient une liste numérotée des éléments d'actif de la succession. » (contains a numbered list of the estate's assets) (art. 1331).
« TOTAUX » (totals) and closing
At the end of the document: the number of sections, the number of lots and the total estimate, then the closing formula, « De tout ce que dessus, j'ai dressé le présent procès-verbal d'inventaire pour servir et valoir ce que de droit. » (of all the foregoing, I have drawn up this inventory report, to serve as of right). Below it, in small type, the texts the firm prints as the legal basis of the act: « Ordonnance n° 2016-728 du 2 juin 2016, art. 1er ; Décret n° 2021-1625 du 10 décembre 2021 ; Art. 1328 à 1333 du code de procédure civile. » (Ordinance No. 2016-728 of 2 June 2016, art. 1; Decree No. 2021-1625 of 10 December 2021; arts. 1328 to 1333 of the Code of Civil Procedure).
Footer
On every page, outside the frame: the export date and the « N / T » page count. The paraph, when the firm applies it, appears on the left.
Appendix: the checklist
The checklist lists, one line per entry, the persons and entries named by the Code of Civil Procedure (art. 1328, art. 1329, art. 1330 and art. 1331) and by the Civil Code (art. 789). Each line has a box to tick and the article beside it.
